How glucose syrup produced from cassava?
Cassava is kind of root grain that is widely grown in Africa and some areas in southeast Asia. It is easily plant and price is very cheap. Cassava tubers contain starch, which can be used to produce glucose. How glucose syrup produced from cassava? Firstly we should extract starch from cassava tubers, then make starch into glucose syrup.
There are two ways of how glucose syrup produced from cassava: one method is to get starch slurry from cassava tuber and then produce glucose syrup from starch slurry directly; another one is to get dried starch powder firstly and then make glucose syrup from starch powder.
How glucose syrup produced from cassava tubers? The procedures is as following: First step is cassava tubers cleaning and washing, use dry sieve machine and paddle washer to remove impurities attached on the surface of cassava roots, paddle washer can also eliminate most peels on cuticle layer. 2nd step is to crush cassava into mash by rasper machine. Next is the starch extraction and refining process, by using centrifuge sieve and hydrocyclone station, we can get purified and required density starch slurry.
After we get starch slurry, we can make use of the starch slurry directly to make glucose syrup. How glucose syrup produced from cassava slurry? Firstly transfer starch slurry into liquefaction tanks to finish liquefaction process and get dextrin, which makes preparation for next saccharification process. Then liquefied solution is sent to filter press machine to remove protein and other solid impurities. Liquid from filter press then goes into the saccharification tanks for further production. By adding enzymes under specified temperature, the saccharification process will convert the liquid dextrin into certain DE value glucose syrup. Following decolorization and decarbonization process will make syrup colorless. Decolorization is finished in tanks and decarbonization process is completed by filter press. After all organic impurities removed, ion exchange column is applied to eliminate inorganic impurities. Finally evaporator plant is used to get certain DS value glucose syrup.
How glucose syrup produced from cassava starch powder? The process is similar with above that is produced from starch slurry. Only different process is that we need to mix starch with certain water and get starch slurry firstly. The detailed process is as bellow:
1st step of glucose syrup manufacturing process is mixing process. Mixing starch with water to get certain required density starch slurry.
2nd step is liquefaction process. In liquefaction process, after adding enzyme, temperature is maintained at required temperature to make starch slurry liquefied completely. And then we can get dextrin for next process.
3rd step is saccharification process. It's the key process to how glucose syrup produced from cassava starch, which directly determines DE value of final products. 4th step is decolorization and decarburization process. The purpose of decolorization is to remove organic impurities dissolved in water. Filter press machine will be used here.
5th step is ion exchange process. After the water-insoluble impurities and organic impurities in the sugar liquid are removed, there still contain many inorganic impurities dissolved in water. The purpose of ion exchange is to remove these water-soluble inorganic impurities.
The last 6th step is evaporation process. After previous steps, impurities in the liquid glucose are mostly removed. The last step will use evaporator to remove excess water and get final glucose syrup in certain density. Three-effect evaporator is commonly used.
